Liverpool and Barcelona on deal with Luis Suarez
Luis Suarez is ready to join Spanish giants Barcelona after departure from Liverpool and they had agreed on terms, announced by La Liga club. Suarez lawyer would be appealing the fourth month ban from all football activities the later Friday. Suarez received the ban for biting Georgio Chiellini, the Italian defender at the World Cup to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
Barcelona confirmed that Luis Suarez will be going through a medical, before signing a five year contract and for that purpose, he will travel to Nou Camp next week. Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers said with great reluctance that their player is being sold. Rodgers stated at Liverpool’s official website that their club has done all the possibilities over a period of time to keep Luis at Liverpool. He also said that after lengthy discussions they have finally agreed on the statement of moving him to Spain to experience new challenges and the club wish the player and his family well, and they will always consider them as friends.
Liverpool was joined by Suarez in January 2011 from Ajax Dutch club for 39 million dollar in which he scored 82 goals in 133 appearances. He netted 31 times in 37 appearances, for which he played a pivotal and extremely important role, last year, in Reds’ title Challenge.
Liverpool ensured Champions League football for the first time in four seasons, and in the end, came up short, finishing second to Manchester City. Luis Suarez also faced lengthy bans, marked by two highly controversial incidents in his time at Merseyside. He was given an eight game suspension when he was found guilty by English football association (FA) in the case of racially abusing Patrice Evra, the Manchester United Defender, at a match in October 2011.
Luis Suarez faced another ban of 10 matches for the violent conduct of biting Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic on the arm, at the end of season of 2012/13. That was the second time when an opponent was bit by Suarez. Suarez was again suspended for seven years after biting PSV Otman Bakkal on the shoulder, while he was playing for Ajax in 2010. And later on the incident which involved Georgio Chiellini happened in Brazil.
Rodgers praised Luis Suarez for his contribution, while he was at Anfield, despite all the disciplinary difficulties faced by him. Rodgers said in a statement that Luis Suarez is a very good player, plus he has a very special talent and he also thanked him for the role he played in the team in the past two years, during Rodger’s time at Liverpool.
He also said that Luis Suarez is the first person himself who know that he has improved himself a lot as a player, along with the team mates and he is sure that he has get many benefits from being here as we get benefits from him as well.
